A big-hearted family has lit up their whole house with a magical, movie-inspired Christmas lights display to raise funds for a city hospice.

Lewis Allard and wife Laura decorated their entire house with 50,000 LED bulbs for St Richard's - a charity close to their hearts.

They first put up the head-turning lights at their Callow End home on November 26 - and since then the spectacular display has generated stares, gasps and more than a few jokes about the electricity bill.

The couple hopes the gesture will help raise at least £500 for St Richard's Hospice Foundation through a Just Giving page set up for the cause.

So far they have raised £225 but they would like to raise as much as they can - while also bringing a little festive joy to their community.

The 32-year-old stonemason said the display in Bow Hill, Callow End, near Worcester was 'definitely bigger' than their first fundraising display last year for Worcester's neonatal unit.

It has not only been the couple's own children - Scarlet, nine, and Bobby, six - who have enjoyed the show but other young people and their parents who come along for a peek while drivers slow down for a better look.

Mr Allard had joked that they would light the house up like Griswold in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

He said: "It started off as a joke and now there are 50,000 bulbs. Everyone loves it. There's been a few jokes about the electricity bill. I was expecting it to be large but I checked on the smart meter and it's only 3p per hour which is a bargain. The lights take a lot of people by surprise."

He added: "St Richard's is an amazing charity. They have looked after so many family and friends.

"We hope you like our lights this year for St Richard's Hospice Foundation because they have cared for family and friends close to us.

"We hope our lights bring a lot of happiness to everyone this year, and if we can raise a little money for a charity close to our hearts that's even better."

Last year they raised £880 for Worcester's neonatal unit, well over their £200 target.
