REACTIONS to plans for a new Costa Coffee Drive Thru have been mixed with some calling for a shop or fast food restaurant instead.

The plans for the drive thru at Powick had already been branded 'utter madness' as a series of official objections were made, some saying it would increase the risk of crashes.

Plans have been submitted for the drive-thru coffee shop on Malvern Road on vacant land next to the Crown Inn Pub.

However, the new proposals have received a backlash from residents living near the site with many saying the road is already a crash hotspot.

Worcester News readers, responding to the article on our Facebook page, shared these concerns and many felt we already had enough Costas in and around the city. Some continued to call for a Burger King instead, others a village shop.

Sophie Cook wrote: "Why are they adding yet another coffee shop?"

Ali Taylor said: "Absolutely absurd. I genuinely thought this was an April fools joke."

Sam Badham wrote: "Build it in Kempsey please!"

Meanwhile, Charlotte Robets felt a mini supermarket would be a better fit for Powick, a view echoed by Sarah Farrell. Bob Richards said: "I think you mispelled that... you meant to spell Burger King..."

"Not another one," wrote Brenda Eccleston.

Jenna Mitchell called for the 'fantastic independents in Worcester' to 'club together' and open their own drive thru.

Not everyone was critical. Simon May wrote: "Can't beat a Costa! Fantastic news."

Worcester News has contacted Costa Coffee for a comment and is awaiting a response.

A total of 15 full or part-time jobs will also be created if plans go ahead.

Access is proposed through a one-way system through the Crown Inn pub car park.

Vehicles can exit via Malvern Road or the new road being developed as part of a new residential development opposite.

The nearest Costa Coffee Drive-Thru is at Strensham Services on the M5 motorway.

There will be 25 car parking spaces, including two disabled spaces, along with four electric vehicle charging spaces, as well as a waiting or delivery bay.
