A STRANGE humming sound is driving people to distraction and making them feel like they have a 'hangover'.

The droning sound heard in Warndon Villages in Worcester was discussed on social media (Worcestershire Noticeboard) where one man asked to know the source.

Many have suggested it is the sound of a corn dryer as some complained the Warndon Villages humming noise is 'giving us a hangover'.

He wrote on the Facebook group: "It's quiet but you can feel it... all through the house on the surrounding streets where I live. It gives me a headache. No idea where it's coming from. Sounds like some kind of machinery/equipment but it's like a constant drone and it's causing me physical pain, similar to that of a red wine hangover."

Worcester City Council said it had received no complaints about the noise which is understood to affect the south of the parish rather than the north.

Lucy Hodgson, chair of Warndon Parish Council, said she had not received any recent complaints about the noise - although it had been reported to the parish council in the past.

Cllr Hodgson said: "It tends to be the noise from the drying of the grains. I think it's in Wychavon or the Crowle area. It's certainly not in the city. But I have not been informed about it by the parish.

"Certainly, in previous years, it has tended to be the drying of the grain harvest, especially at this time of year when the harvest is being got in, particularly this year because the land has been so wet."

However, she invited residents to raise the issue, or any others, at a drop-in surgery at the Lyppard Hub in Ankerage Green between 6pm and 7pm on Monday or at the parish council meeting the following Monday at 7pm.

"Any members of the public can drop by and it is open questions first of all, before the meeting. We would be glad to hear from any residents about any issues," she said.

We reported in March last year how residents took to social media to complain about the "loud humming" noise described as "annoying" for residents including those trying to sleep.

The noise appears to be happening late at night into the early hours, and was heard on Saturday, March 5 and Monday night, March 7 last year.

Last time theories put forward were that the noise was either workmen, a generator, or a corn dryer - as this was previously a noise heard by residents on the estate.
