A 'HERO' firefighter could be 'dismissed over a minor accident' according to a fundraising page set up to support him as friends rally behind him and his family.

Firefighter Thomas (Ed) Jones is said to be facing dismissal from his job with Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue according to a Just Giving page set up to support him.

The family of the firefighter, who is from Worcester, and the Fire Brigades Union are not commenting at this stage because the dismissal is now subject to an appeal process.

Because it is a live disciplinary case, Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service is also unable to comment.

A Just Giving page has now raised more than £5,200 to support the father-of-three through what is described as a difficult time for him and his family.

The page reads: "Recently, Ed experienced an unfortunate incident—a minor accident that, by any measure, posed no threat to anyone and resulted in no injuries.

"This incident, which has been handled with understanding and compassion in similar cases throughout the service, has taken an unexpectedly heavy toll on Ed's career. Despite over 15 years without any driving incidents, he now faces the unimaginable – dismissal.

"Ed is not just a firefighter; he is a hero who has played a vital role in numerous rescues, receiving recognition through two Chiefs Commendations and one Air Ambulance Commendation. His commitment to the safety of our community extends beyond the call of duty, reflected in the five positive notes in his files.

"Now, as we approach the festive season, a time meant for joy and togetherness, Ed and his family are facing unexpected challenges.

"We believe in the power of our community to come together and support one of our own during times of need."

On the page, Mr Jones said: "I am completely overwhelmed by the response to this campaign and the messages of solidarity from colleagues and members from all over the UK.

"This has been a tough time for me and my family but I'm focused on the appeal hearing and hopeful for the outcome, but until then I'm being careful with what I say.

"I'm not commenting on anything at the moment on social media and although I want to thank everyone in person, I can't right now and I hope you all understand.

"You have all given me a huge boost and I'm overwhelmed by your generosity and support, for which I'm eternally grateful. I love you all and look forward to being able to thank you all soon."
